Discarded cigarette starts skip fire

A CARELESSLY discarded cigarette is believed to have started a big skip fire in Loweswater Close, Orford, Warrington today.
Firefighters tackled the blaze using a main jet.
The incident followed a weekend of fine weather which led to a number of fires involving grass in the open.
The most serious was on land off Farrell Street, Warrington and involved an area of about 40 metres by 20 metres.
The blaze, which was believed to be the work of vandals, was extinguished by firefighters from Penketh, using hand-held appliances.
Police are investigating the incident and anyone with information about it is asked to call them on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
Another grass broke out on land off Longshaw Street, Dallam and fire crews extinguished it using beaters.
