Town’s MPs “safe” as gunshots heard outside Parliament

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones is in lock-down in the chamber of the House of Commons following what appears to be an attack on the Palace of Westminster.
She had left her mobile phone in her office but borrowed another MP’s phone to call her office in Warrington to let husband Mike Vobe and her staff she was all right.
davidmowatspeakingMr Vobe said: “We are all relieved Helen is OK.  She can’t get out of the chamber at the moment – but neither can anyone else.”
Warrington South MP David Mowat was away from Westminster at the time.
He was giving a speech elsewhere in London.
He said: “I don’t know anything about what is happening other than what has been reported on television.”
According to the BBC a police officer was stabbed in the Houses of Parliament.
MPs fwere told the alleged attacker had been shot by armed police following a “serious” incident.
Staff inside Parliament were told to stay inside their offices.
There were reports of people being shot. Several shots were heard.
Tom Peck, political editor for the Independent, tweeted: “There was a loud bang. Screams. Commotion. Then the sound of gunshots. Armed police everywhere.”
Prime Minister Theresa May was seen being ushered into a silver Jaguar car as what sounded like gunfire rang out at Parliament during the incident.
A Downing Street source confirmed the Prime Minister  was “OK”.
Scotland Yard said it was called to a firearms incident on Westminster Bridge amid reports of several people injured.
Transport for London said Westminster underground station had been shut at the police’s request, and buses diverted.
Leader of the House David Lidington said: “It seems that a police officer has been stabbed, that the alleged assailant was shot by armed police.
“An air ambulance is currently attending the scene to remove the casualties.”

  1. Shocking and heartbreaking to see the news of this evil attack unfolding over the course of the afternoon. It must have been absolutely terrifying for all concerned.

    My heart goes out to all those involved and to the poor families of those killed and injured 🙁
