Taxi CCTV systems to be investigated

TOWN Hall chiefs have moved to reassure taxi drivers and the public that the quality of CCTV system installed in cabs at Warrington will be investigated.
This follows complaints from taxi drivers that CCTV system they were required to install in their cabs are “unsafe.”
Some cabbies complained they had been forced to pay £450 for the systems which had proved unreliable.
They said the systems were running down car batteries and even invalidating their insurance.
CCTV systems have been installed in Warrington taxis since last summer – to safeguard drivers and their passengers and reduce the fear of crime.
Professor Steven Broomhead, the council’s chief executive said: “Warrington Borough Council has only received a small number of complaints and they are currently under investigation. We have contacted the companies who are responsible for the systems that they have installed.
“The council will carry out checks to ensure that any issues are resolved. We acknowledge the support of drivers in introducing CCTV and in protecting the public.”
