Council partnership will get the grass cut better

GRASS cutting at Birchwood is set to improve as a result of a partnership between Warrington Borough Council and Birchwood Town Council.
The borough has supplied lawnmowers and town council maintenance staff will do the cutting – starting this month.
Borough council officers will carry out additional grass cuts which will help improve standards throughout Birchwood.
Three years ago £2.1 million was spent on the maintenance of parks, open spaces and street cleaning across the borough – by 2015 the figure was reduced to £1.4 million and it has since decreased again.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, the borough’s lead member for environment, said: “The council’s grounds maintenance team has been reduced substantially in recent years – but our dedicated frontline staff are always looking for ways to deliver the best possible service in partnership with town and parish councils.”
Cllr Russ Bowden, chairman of Birchwood Town Council, said: “This new approach to maintenance builds on a number of partnerships between Warrington Borough Council and parish councils to improve the environment and help to reduce the impact of central government budget cuts on maintenance standards throughout the borough.”
The borough council already works with parish councils and volunteer groups to help with litter-picking and other environmental work.
