LIVEWIRE, the company which manages leisure, library and lifestyles services in Warrington, is recruiting new board members.
The non-profit community interest company is looking for individuals with a specialist background in any of the following areas: libraries and learning, strategic partnership working, creative enterprise, the leisure and sports industry, finance or people management.
Applications are being sought from both members of the community and those with senior relevant experience.
LiveWire has ambitious plans for the future so wants to recruit individuals with both strategic and clear thinking skills, the ambition and dedication to drive the company forward, an understanding of social and commercial issues, innovative ideas and the ability to contribute effectively as part of a team.
Board members act as non-executive directors of the organisation and are expected to attend four board meetings a year. They are also expected to sit on one of LiveWire’s sub-committees, which meet quarterly.
Other commitments include attending key LiveWire events, championing the organisation in external networks and developing influential partnerships.
The role is non-remunerated, but expenses will be paid. Current employees of Warrington Borough Council, LiveWire or Culture Warrington are not eligible to apply.

At first glance I thought this was significant progress but these are non-exec positions. Positive in many ways but I presume the actual board and management will still consist of trusted council employees with no experience of the private sector, working safe in the knowledge they can screw up magnificently at a cost of millions of pounds and still enjoy a pay off, pension and even an honour?
Ironically Live Wire is labelled a non profit community interest company. An obvious misnomer. The community it purports to serve is paying dearly to keep it afloat. So much so the accounts are signed off with the caveat it is only trading because it’s underwritten by WBC (aka the Council taxpayers).
Previously, when these services were managed by WBC, exactly how many people were employed to do the job it now takes an executive board, a management committee and volunteers to do?
1 head and a few managers of depts.?
