Warrington residents to spend £268 million on cars

WARRINGTON residents plan to spend nearly £268,000,000 on cars this year – with the Ford Fiesta their most popular choice.
It will be a bumper year for car buying in the town, according to new research by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
More than 150 people were quizzed just as the new “17” number plates were about to hit Warrington’s showrooms.
The Ford Focus was identified as the second most popular choice, followed by the Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Polo.
Two in 10(19 per cent) Warrington residents are planning to buy a new or used car in the next year and a similar number (17 per cent) are “maybes” in regard to a new set of wheels. The average estimated spend is £13,751 and a third (31 per cent) will spend over £20k. Half (48 per cent) spread the cost to help handle the expense.
Royal Bank of Scotland conducted the research as it announced it would be offering its lowest ever loan rate (3.9 per cent) to customers.
Paul Fox, retail managing director with Royal Bank of Scotland said: “The research provides a fascinating snapshot, not only of the most popular cars but the different elements that we factor into our purchasing decisions such as safety, practicality and cost.
“Particularly for families, the need for a new car can come when there’s a lot of other big financial commitments hitting at the same time, so a loan can be good way to spread the cost and take the immediate pressure off.”
