Peel Hall campaigners praised by council deputy leader

RESIDENTS who fought – and won – the latest battle to block housing at Peel Hall, Warrington, have won praise from the deputy leader of the borough council.
Cllr Graham Friend praised residents and local councillors for their “perseverance” and “dedication.”
He was speaking after the borough’s development management committee had thrown out proposals for 1,200 homes submitted by Satnam Developments.

Cllr Friend has commended the Save Peel Hall campaign group for helping to mobilise the community.
He said: “The result was a huge victory for communities throughout Warrington North, all of which would have felt the impact of Satnam’s development if it had been allowed to go ahead.
“Like many of my colleagues on the council, I am delighted that the committee voted unanimously to turn them down once again.
“Satnam have tried to wear us down by returning time after time with further applications, each one more unwelcome than the last. But local residents have persevered in their fight to protect Peel Hall.
“Members of the campaign group have mobilised people, and worked alongside local councillors and Helen Jones MP to make sure we put forward a really compelling case. I want to commend everyone who has been involved on this issue, they are a credit to our town.”
Cllr Friend said council colleagues in Poplars and Hulme, Winwick and Croft have been diligent and dedicated in ensuring that the views of their residents were heard.

  1. Praising everyone I see Graham. Praising councillors, with a name check for Helen Jones MP. It must be difficult to try and please everyone. Grateful to councillors who supported you in your bid to become deputy leader, and whom you will continue to rely on to remain in that coveted position. And grateful to Helen for helping you with your bid for power. The problem I guess is that Helen seems to despise most Labour councillors, and most Labour councillors appear to despise her. Despite the cheesy photo shoots or press releases designed to indicate that there are no problems with unity. The question I wonder is, when push comes to shove, will you be prepared to distance yourself from the Jones clan.
