A MAN has been fined for fraudulently using a blue badge to park in disabled spaces.

The case against Mohammed Yaquob, 31, of Salisbury Street, was heard at Warrington Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to four offences by post.

After an investigation by Warrington Borough Council’s counter fraud team it was found that, on four separate occasions, Mr Yaquob used a blue badge which did not belong to him (and had expired) to park in designated disabled parking spaces.

On 15 February 2017, the court fined Mr Yaquob £69 in respect of all four offences, charged him a victim surcharge of £30 and ordered him to pay £100 in court costs.

He was ordered to pay the full amount within 28 days and a collection order has been made by the court.

Mr Yaquob also received penalty charge notices (PCNs) amounting to £120 at the time of the incidents where he was parked illegally.

Cllr Russ Bowden, executive board member for corporate finance, said: “The blue badge scheme provides essential support to disabled people.

“Misuse is socially unacceptable and we are cracking down on people who are using blue badges illegally.

“It is a crime to use a badge that does not belong to you and people using them fraudulently will be prosecuted.”
