WARRINGTON Collegiate looks set to merge with Mid Cheshire College this summer.

The Boards of Corporation at Warrington Collegiate and Mid Cheshire College have unanimously supported a merger between the two colleges, with a vesting date of August 1st.

A statement from the Collegiate said: ” The Boards see this as a logical step, which will enable the new college to determine its educational character in the best interests of learners from the communities it serves and to respond to local and national economic and skills priorities.

The merger is seen as the best option for Warrington and will enable Warrington Collegiate and Mid Cheshire College to work together to create a larger, financially stable and economically resilient institution.

A public consultation about the proposed merger will take place over the coming months.

Last September there was a public consultation looking at options for Warrington to merge with three other colleges in Cheshire, involving Mid Cheshire, South Cheshire and West Cheshire.

This followed a review of Further Education provision across Cheshire and Warrington.
