The new fire station
MEMBERS of the public are to be invited to take a tour of the first fire station in Cheshire to be fitted with a living green, sedum roof.
The new Penketh Community Fire Station, near Warrington, will be open from 4-6pm on Thursday February 2.
Guests will be able to meet Penketh’s new wholetime and on-call firefighters who have been carefully selected for their ambition and dedication to protecting Cheshire.
The new station will help to fulfil the service’s mission of becoming a safer Cheshire and continuing to reduce rates of death and injury from fire and other emergencies.
The building is Cheshire’s first station to have a sedum rooftop which will complement the existing greenery of the location and enhance the building’s sustainable credentials.
Children and parents alike will enjoy seeing both vintage fire engines and classic modern day appliances. Firefighters will be on hand to show people around the engines, illustrating the variety of equipment ranging from hose reels used to put out fires to specialist car cutting equipment.
There’ll also be static displays of emergency and rescue equipment, with firefighters on hand to explain what it is and what it’s used for.
A large LCD screen will display key safety messages throughout the event.
Penketh station manager Tony O’Dwyer said: “We are looking forward to meeting the community of Penketh and showing them around the station. Recruitment for Penketh started in 2014, two years before the station was due to open, so you can imagine the level of anticipation that’s been building!
“Our new recruits are ready to get stuck in and can’t wait to
start engaging with the community and forming those relationships that will be the foundation of their career.”
Anyone who would like a tour of Penketh Community Fire Station on Marsh Lane, can just turn up on the day from 4pm.
