Mowat backs Labour’s devolution decision

WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat has added his voice to the chorus welcoming the borough council Labour Group’s decision to seek a devolution deal with Cheshire, rather than Liverpool.
But he expressed regret that the decision had not been made earlier.
Mr Mowat said: “I’m delighted that Warrington’s Labour Group has finally come to the conclusion that a Cheshire deal is best for the town. It’s a shame that we have wasted nine months, but at least we now have a decision.
“We all need to work together now to make the Cheshire deal a success and make Warrington one of the best towns in the country to live, work and do business in.”
The decision has been welcomed by business leaders in the borough.
But Warrington North MP Helen Jones is against joining with Cheshire and would have preferred a deal with Liverpool.
