WARRINGTON Wolves’ hooker Daryl Clark has committed his future to the club have agreeing an improved and extended four-year deal until November 2020.
Clark, 23, made his debut for Warrington in February 2015 on the back of a Man of Steel winning season with previous Super League club Castleford Tigers.
His first two seasons at the Wire have seen him make 64 appearances, crossing for 16 tries, holding heritage number 1115.
Last season Clark played in the two finals – Challenge Cup and Super League – and in the win at Hull FC to lift the League Leaders Shield.
The autumn internationals saw Clark pull on the England jersey for the fixtures against New Zealand and Scotland, having made his Four Nations debut back in 2014.
Clark was a highly sought player across both codes over here and in the NRL and his decision to extend his stay at the Wolves is not only good news for the Warrington club but also for Super League and Rugby League in England.
Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: “We are delighted that Daz has re-signed with us. He is somebody who is highly respected and sought-after with the capability of excelling in any competition in the world. He is one of the best dummy half runners and dangerous players in the world in terms of his position, and is progressing and developing other aspects of his game too, maturing into a good leader within the team. We are pleased that he’s going to continue developing these attributes in order for us to continue to improve along with him and that’s what we are all about as a club.
“He has decided he’s happy, progressing and developing well, and not to look at other options staying here for an extra two years, similar to the likes of Chris Hill, Ben Currie and a number of others who have gone long-term. They will play a big part in us having a strong core of players for a number of years to come, to work with, build on and improve the squad.”
Clark added: “We’ve got a great team here and I want to continue to be a part of that. I think we’ve started to prove ourselves as a side and have got stronger and hopefully we can go one better. The club’s been improving over the last couple of years and I think it’s only a matter of time before we build a team that can do something special and I’d love to be a part of that. Tony’s a top coach and ever since I moved here he and all the staff have been good to me there so really is no reason to go elsewhere.”
