Gunman in raid on Orford convenience store

A MAN armed with what appeared to be a handgun got away with cash and tobacco in a raid on a Warrington convenience store early today.
Police are appealing for information from the public following the raid on the McColl’s shop in Greenwood Crescent, Orford shortly before 6.30am.
The man entered the shop through the main entrance, approached staff members working in the store and produced what appeared to be a handgun, demanding access to the safe.
He was informed that they were unable to open the safe, so he then demanded access to the till. After taking cash, along with a quantity of tobacco, the offender then left the store via the main entrance.
The raider was between 5ft 4 and 5ft 6 inches tall, he was wearing a high visibility vest over dark clothing with a blue hoody up over his head; he also had a black scarf covering his face.
The man was believed to be carrying a handgun, although it was not discharged, and it has not yet been established if the gun was real or imitation.
Officers from Warrington CID have described the victims as being left very shaken by the incident.
A spokesman said: “We are currently following a number of lines enquiry in relation to this incident, including CCTV analysis and speaking to local residents. We are also keeping an open mind as to whether this incident is linked to similar robberies that have recently occurred in the Warrington area.
“As part of the investigation we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Greenwood Crescent area at the time this incident occurred and believes that they may have seen the offender or witnessed anything suspicious. We urge anyone with any information to contact the team here at Warrington on 101.”

  1. Good grief is this the 4th local convenience store and small post office raided in the past week or so?
    Hope the staff are ok and recover from their shocking ordeal.
    Seems like smaller local convenience stores are being seen as an easy target at the moment. I hope the police catch the people doing it very quickly and that stores like this up their security including cctv and alarms linked directly to the Police as some shops do. Perhaps having more staff on premises and visible on shifts might serve as a slight deterrent too !
