Active Cheshire hit the road in Warrington

THE Active Cheshire team hit the road to engage with local Stakeholders from all backgrounds in Cheshire and Warrington.

More than 70 partners gathered at Walton Hall, Warrington, to hear news about how Active Cheshire can help them to improve understanding of the community and secure vital investment emerging from Sport England, to tackle Problems around physical activity locally.

Whilst positive strides are being taken in encouraging more people to be active, there are still more than 200,000 local adults that fail to meet Chief Medical Officer guidelines for Physical Activity. These guidelines state that adults should aim to achieve 150 minutes of physical activity every week.

So, whilst there is still a big job to be done, the great news is that there is a huge desire and commitment locally to address the issue. Hundreds have signed up to be #PartOfTheMOVEment and support is growing daily.

A common theme from the Warrington event was the need to embed physical activity into daily lives, strive to make physical activity enjoyable and fun, and ultimately make being active the norm for everyone.

One stakeholder in attendance said, “It has been so informative to hear about the issue of physical inactivity from the perspectives of both professionals and members of the community wanting to do something about it. We will certainly be taking what we have heard today and thinking hard about how we put this into practice”.

Anne Boyd, CEO of Active Cheshire, said “I have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we have received. It is really clear that there is an appetite for change and improvement locally. I am also looking forward to introducing our local teams in the new year who will be able to support partners with these ambitious local plans”.
