WARRINGTON Police have issued special powers to tackle anti-social behaviour involving groups of youths gathering in certain areas of the town.

The police are currently experiencing a large amount of calls in relation to Anti-Social Behaviour involving local youths around Great Sankey, Penketh, Westbrook, Whittle Hall, Burtonwood and Winwick areas and are imposing a dispersal order from 4pm today (Wednesday) for a period of 48 hours.

Due to these incidents police will be performing regular patrols of these areas actively targeting the ring leaders of the groups of youths involved.

A police spokesperson said: “The vast majority of local youths are well behaved, however a small minority seems intent on causing problems and their behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Warrington Police will be issuing a dispersal order this evening at 4pm running for 48 hours and ending at 4pm on Friday for the areas noted above.

“This order gives a constable in uniform the power to direct any person who is in a public place in this locality not to return to the locality for the period specified as above.

“This order is being issued for the purpose of removing or reducing the likelihood of members of the public in the locality being harassed, alarmed or distressed by crime or disorder, and more particularly by Youth Anti-Social Behaviour.

“The person(s) issued with a dispersal notice must leave the area immediately.

“We ask all parents/guardians/carers to make sure they know where their child is and what they are doing whilst out with friends. Our officers will not tolerate this sort of disruption to the local community and we would encourage residents to report incidents on 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.”
