VILLAGERS have been left shocked by the sudden closure of Lymm Post Office.

A notice appeared in the window saying the closure was due to “exceptional circumstances.”

Another notice says all parcels have to be collected from Altrincham Post Office.

Local Councillor Ian Marks said: “This is very worrying and no one seems to know what is going on.

“It is particularly concerning as we are approaching Christmas and lots of people will be expecting parcels. People are shocked and it has all happened so quickly.”

A Post Office Spokesperson said: “We can confirm that due to circumstances beyond our control Lymm Post Office, Harrisons of Lymm, 2 The Cross, Lymm WA13 0HP has temporarily closed.

“We know how important Post Office services are to people in Lymm and we are committed to maintaining services in the area. We will continue to work hard to restore service in the area as soon as possible.

“In the meantime any customers wishing to access Post Office services may do so from any convenient Post Office branch, including:
• Statham Post Office, 61 Albany Road, Statham, Lymm WA13 9LT
• Broomedge Post Office, 286 Higher Lane, Broomedge, Lymm WA13 0RW”

  1. I’m shocked that our local Post Office could close so suddenly and so close to Christmas! I feel sorry for the poor staff that worked there too as they are without a job now right before Christmas. I cannot understand how it could close just like that, it was always so busy!

  2. Might have something to do with the fact that ‘Lymm Office Supplies Ltd’ company of the same address ie 2 The Cross was dissolved by a compulsory strike off by Companies House although saying that the strike off and Final Gazette Notice was back in April so I would have though if it was because of this it would have closed before now. Maybe someone else took it over after that or started a new company and that has gone bust too.
Down side of post offices often not owning their own business premises and renting space and/or running inside premises owned by other businesses I guess.
Not to worry, the people of Lymm can always ‘nip’ to the rather small main post office now situated within WH Smiths in town after all if Lymm Library also closes they will have to go into town anyway to use a library 😉

      • From comments Sha made on the forum page topic and other info re: the ‘rules’ regarding libraries and location & distance to travel to one it seems they might not be able to close Lymm Library even if they wanted to…but they [Livewire/Council] should know that.
I guess Lymm has been included in the list though just to be fair and to look like ‘we are all in it together’ or maybe they {Livewire/Council] hoped nobody would realise re the rules 😉 Only time will tell though….

Which could have been in a shoe shop if WBC had their way.
      Hey Ho that’s progress .. NOT 🙁

      • In fairness though it wasn’t WBC who submitted the planning application to move the library into a shoe shop..and seems it wasn’t even Livewire (or so they say).
Strange how it was suddenly withdrawn just hours before it was about to go to decision eh ? Maybe one or two brain cells finally kicked in and the consequences suddenly became apparent to ‘whoever’ ……
