A man who attempted to smuggle drugs into Warrington’s Risley prison by using a drone has been jailed for over three years.
Renelle David Carlisle, 23, of Chestnut Crescent, Preston, was stopped by officers from Cheshire Police on Friday 12 August, after he was seen acting suspiciously, on Silver Lane, near to Risley Prison.
After stopping Carlisle officers conducted a search of a bag he was carrying and discovered a drone, a mobile phone and a quantity of drugs. Carlisle was arrested at the scene and following questioning he was charged with possession with intent to supply Class A, B and C drugs.
Carlisle appeared at Chester Crown Court where he sentenced to 3 years 2 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, two counts of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and one counts of possession with intent to supply Class C drugs.
Superintendent Peter Shaw from Warrington Local Policing Unit said: “This case was the first of its kind in Cheshire and I hope that the sentence handed to Carlisle sends out a clear message to other potential criminals that drugs crime will not be tolerated in Cheshire.
“We are committed to tackling illegal drugs and I urge anyone with any information about suspected drug related activity in their local communities to get in touch.”

I don’t think that sentence is anywhere near long enough, and how much will he actually serve?
There should be a charge for obstructing the penal system, the knock on effect of supplying drugs to inmates of prisons is probably vast. A minimum time to be served of 8yrs would be more appropriate and much more effective in eradicating this type of crime.
