Village set to lose pay phone targeted by vandals

VILLAGERS look set to lose a a public pay phone which was badly vandalised even though local councillors successfully campaigned to get it repaired.

Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Councillor Keith Bland (pictured) contacted BT who went to work in repairing the phone and cleaning the Kiosk making it usable once again.keithbland.jpg

However BT have also placed a notice inside the Kiosk on Newchurch Lane, Culcheth,  stating that it will eventually be removed and residents had 42 days to comment from October 13 by contacting Warrington Borough Council Planning Department. (01925 443322)

Cllr Bland said: “It will be disappointing to see this public facility removed but I can understand why BT would wish to do so. The Public Phone in some locations is not a financial viability anymore and the likelihood of it being vandalised again is a strong possibility.

Still, this shows what can be done when residents work with our ‘Look of Our Villages’ team. We don’t wait around we get to work and get things done where we can.”

  1. What makes idiots (it’s the only polite term) continually vandalise public equipment like this. I wonder what they would have to say if their own lives’ were dependent on that phone box functioning as intended? Please don’t say boredom, heaven knows there’s more than enough available to keep them gainfully interested nowadays.
