Restaurant’s awning plan is thrown out

PLANNING chiefs have thrown out plans for a retractable awning over a Stockton Heath restaurant’s outdoor eating area.
Members of Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee decided the awning at Ego, in Walton Road, would have a harmful impact on the street scene and also have a detrimental effect on an adjoining business.
Almost 150 people had written letters supporting the restaurant’s application, but Stockton Heath Parish Council had objected on the grounds the design and appearance of the structure would impact on the overall visual amenity of the street.
They pointed out the property was located directly on the border of the London Road Conservation Area.
Four other objections were also lodged – including one from neighbouring business Costello’s Bar.
Planning officers had recommended the scheme be approved.
