Photographer’s marathon effort for YMCA

WARRINGTON photographer Lanza Martineta is planning to run the Chester Marathon to help raise funds for the town’s YMCA which is under threat of closure due to funding cuts.

Lanza is helping raise money for the under threat charity which helps vulnerable and homeless people after receiving support from the YMCA when he first arrived in Warrington.

Hitting out at the £38k funding cuts from Warrington Borough Council Lanza, who is running in the marathon this Sunday (October 3rd) said: “I find this totally unacceptable and am doing all I can to raise awareness and funds to stop this happening.

“I have lived in Warrington for 27 years and initially upon coming to Warrington, like many people I called on the invaluable services of the YMCA.

“Nothing about my time here has ever lead me to believe that Warrington people are anything but totally considerate and very receptive to all members of the community.

He added: “However the cuts of 38k by the council are totally unacceptable and puts the vulnerable, the homeless and people with mental health problems and addictions at risk.

“As part of my efforts to avoid the loss of this essential part of the Warrington community, I am running the Chester Marathon on Sunday with all proceeds going to the YMCA.

“I do not want to be part of a society that will see me or others suffer and any donations I can raise will make a massive difference and is showing the council that they should be held accountable to the council tax payers, who pay their wages, and that the less fortunate of Warrington cannot be ignored.”
