Hollyoaks stars in town for charity football match

A celebrity charity football match featuring some of the famous faces from Channel 4’s Hollyoaks is set to take place in Warrington in aid of the Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Next Thursday, September 29, kick off 7pm, the Warrington based Flextronics team will lace up their boots, take to Victoria Park Stadium and test their skills against some of the popular Chester-based soap TV stars.

Lending support to the Flex team are ex footballers Colin Hendry, Blackburn and Scotland captain, and Everton’s Graham Stuart. They will be joined by former Warrington Wolves’ rugby player Lee Briers. Premier League veteran Mark Halsey will referee the match.

Longest serving Hollyoaks cast member Nick Pickard, who has played Tony Hutchinson since the soap launched in 1995, is the front man of the fundraising event along with Joe Hitchmough, Flex MRO Buyer.

Commenting on Flex’s involvement Joe stated “We are delighted to be supporting the Claire House Children’s Hospice as the services it provides are extremely valuable to our local community. We wanted to raise funds in an entertaining and fun way, and came up with the idea of a celebrity charity football match. Naturally we have some huge Hollyoaks fans locally, so we expect a great turn out for the match”.

Angella Rawlinson, Area Fundraising Manager at Claire House Charity, added: ““We are so grateful to our friends at Flex for organising the game and to Nick Pickard for donating his time with colleagues at Lime Pictures. I’d like to thank everyone who is donating their time and resources to this project. A lot of people have a great deal of affection for Claire House and we look forward to a great football match”.

The game kicks off at 7.00pm (gates open 6.00pm) with commentary from Wire FM’s Dominic Walker.

The Golborne Brass Band will be on hand to introduce the teams. A half -time performance will take place from dance group Wigan Supreme Starlights Cheerleaders, and Warrington Wolves Wolfie will also be greeting the crowd. In addition, there will be a bumper raffle on the evening.
