Join the eighth UK Recovery Walk

WARRINGTON Borough Council’s public health team is encouraging residents to join the eighth UK Recovery Walk, which takes place in neighbouring Halton on September 16.
The Recovery Walk is held in September every year, as part of Recovery Month.
It aims to raise awareness of substance misuse support and recovery from addiction. The walk celebrates the achievements of individuals in recovery, and acknowledges the work of prevention, treatment, and recovery services.
Organised by Faces and Voices of Recovery – FAVOR UK –  an advocacy organisation addressing issues of stigma, discrimination and social justice – the walk takes place in a different location each year.
This year, it’s coming to Widnes – and as it’s close to home, Warrington residents are invited to join in.
The Recovery Walk is just 1.5 miles and will take place at the Widnes Select Stadium, Lower House, Widnes, starting at 12 noon.
Anyone can join the walk, from those who are recovering from alcohol or drugs addiction, their families or friends who want to show their support and celebrate the achievement of recovery, or people who just want to walk!  There’s no need to register – just turn up and join in.
It will be part of a full afternoon of entertainment being held at the stadium, with many attractions including a fun fair, DJ and comedy workshops, skateboarding, BMX bikes, arts and crafts, live bands, dance troupes and a children’s entertainer.
The Pathways to Recovery health bus will also be on site to provide information about the Warrington drug and alcohol service.
Helping people to stop smoking will be a key theme of the day and local stop smoking services will be on hand to engage with people and offer advice.
In Warrington stop smoking advisers are available at Livewire Lifestyles and stop smoking clinics are easy to access. All support provided is free and you can choose between group support or one-to-one.

Cllr Pat Wright, Warrington Borough Council’s lead member for statutory health, said: “Substance misuse and addiction has a huge impact on individuals and families. That’s why I passionately believe we should support important events like these.
“This is always such a well-attended event each year and it’s a great opportunity to get involved.  Feedback from previous years has been very positive and the day enjoyed by all.”
The Halton Recovery Walk takes place at 12 noon, Saturday September 10.
