Five see red in fiery encounter as Rylands beat Woolston to lift cup

A total of five players saw red in a fiery encounter at the Halliwell Jones Stadium last night as Rylands beat Woolston 36-22 to lift the Stuart Middleton Foundation Cup.

Rylands had three players sent off while Woolston did not fair much better having two players sent off.

One player off both sides was dismissed from the bench plus two more, one from each side, after a mass brawl broke out in the second half.

Rylands, who led 22 – 18 at half time had a player sent off after only 20 minutes when they were leading 10-6.

They took the lead with a try in the first 10 minutes and kept the lead until the final whistle.

Wolves bennie Westwood presented the trophy with Ryland’s Mick Braide voted man-of-the-match.
