Pub canopy plan gets the go-ahead

PLANNING chiefs have given the green light to proposals for a canopy to shelter outdoor drinkers and smokers at a popular Penketh pub.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee rejected objections from local councillors concerned about problems with noise levels, music and people leaving late in the evening at the Crown and Cushion in Farnworth Road.
Penketh Parish Council had opposed the scheme, as had local borough councillor David Keane.
Cllr Keane welcomed the success of the pub but said local people were concerned about the move to encourage drinkers and smokers out onto the frontage of Farnworth Road.
There was already an adequate outdoor drinking area at the rear of the pub.
Penketh Parish Council had similar concerns and  was concerned that buses already mounted the narrow pavement outside the pub.
