WARRINGTON Wolves have confirmed the signing of utility player Matty Blythe on a one-year deal for the 2017 season.
Local talent Blythe, 27, came through the Warrington academy system making his first-team debut in 2007 going on to make 60 appearances, crossing for 12 tries. He holds club heritage number 1077.
His last appearance for the Wolves was in September 2012 when he then joined Bradford on a season-long loan deal in 2013 before signing the following season.
Blythe can play in the centre and back row and will increase options within the squad next year.
Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: “We are exceptionally happy that Matty is returning to his home-town club. He originally went to get some more first-team starting time but he was always a very committed and loyal player to this club. There was always some desire from both sides for Matty to return once he’d gained some more experience.
“The opportunity has now arisen for us to join up again. He’s been a very strong performer for Bradford and has been loyal to them for the last four years. He’s a terrific competitor and is versatile; able to play in the back row as well as in the backs. He’s got a great offload and he’s very fit which is down to his dedication in training. He’s got a terrific character and those are the sort of people we want in and around our club. He’ll be welcomed back with open arms.”
This deal is subject to the player medical this evening (Friday).
