“Phoenix Project” gives a new lease of life to disabled people overseas

Internationally acclaimed local charity, Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP), has collaborated with a youth oriented UK-based charity on a project aiming to provide much needed support to those with a disability or long-term health condition overseas.

WDP has teamed up with St Mark Universal Copts Care (St Mark), to help provide support in Egypt and Sudan.

Despite more than 20million disabled people living in Egypt, it is well documented that provisions offered by the country’s health and social care services are limited and the “Phoenix Project” has been set up to challenge this.

Dave Thompson MBE DL, Founder and Chief Executive of WDP has had a working relationship with Dr Naser Fouad, Chairman of St Mark, for over 10 years and is excited that their two charities can work in partnership on such an important project:

“St Mark’s charity stands for everything we value here at WDP – including independence, dignity and confidentiality. Our role in the “Phoenix Project” will mean co-ordinating the national collection of equipment to be refurbished, containerised and transported to St Mark projects overseas. We’re thrilled to be working with such a dedicated and genuine partner and together, we hope to achieve great things.”

Also playing a key role within the Phoenix Project is the UK’s leading provider of daily living aids and community equipment, NRS Healthcare. Having helped countless numbers of older and disabled people across the UK for the past 69 years, the established company are proud to offer a diverse collection of new and used daily living aids to help give those in need overseas a way to live more independently. Commercial Director for NRS Healthcare, Stephen Kennedy, has been the driving force behind the company supporting the “Phoenix Project”:

“Since meeting Dave and seeing his wonderful passion for helping those who are living with a long-term health condition or disability, he has inspired me to join something which I believe is very, very special.

“NRS Healthcare and Warrington Disability Partnership share mutual goals – to push the boundaries of daily living aids and continue to raise awareness of what is available to make everyday tasks easier for disabled people and their families.

“For almost 70 years, NRS Healthcare has been proud to spread the word of daily living aids and help people throughout the UK lead a more independent life. Now we are proud to support WDP and St Mark in their vision to bring quality living aids to those in need overseas so they can enjoy a more confident and self-sufficient future.”
