WARRINGTON Town regained the Peace Cup with a 2-0 victory over Crewe United from Northern Ireland at Cantilever Park.

In a closely contested first half Warrington’s Conor Speed broke the deadlock, scoring just before the interval.

A bullet header from Zac Aley 10 minutes from time secured the victory ensuring the Peace Cup returned to Cantilever Park following a 3-2 defeat at Crewe last year.

After the game peace campaigner Colin Parry OBE presented the trophy along with a memento of the occasion to Crewe United.

The Crewe football club were the first group to visit Warrington after the 1993 IRA bombing which claimed the lives of 12-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Johnathan Ball.

Local councillor Mike Hannon helped instigate the Peace Cup which took place for the first time shortly after the bombing becoming an annual event around a decade agao.

Meanwhile Warrington Town’s first team continued pre-season with an impressive 0-6 victory away at Garforth. James McCarten scored a hat-trick, Ciaran Kilheeney grabbed two with the other goal coming from Gerard Kinsella.
