Overgrown hedge in Avon Road
ANGRY councillors are calling for urgent action to combat fly-tipping and overgrown hedges and verges in the Culcheth and Croft areas.
Four Conservative councillors were alerted to the problems by residents when they went out and about in Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft in connection with their “Look of our Villages” campaign.
Cllr Val Allen said she had been appalled by the fly tipping going on in country lanes – with the most recent being the dumping of old fridge freezers in a drainage ditch in Stone Pit Lane, Croft.
She said: “It is appalling that our beautiful country lanes are being used as a rubbish dump.
“The latest incident greeted me on Sunday morning when out for a walk. Neighbours have told me of a white van dumping the fridges on Saturday evening around 9.45pm.
“Surely someone has seen this being done? We all need to be vigilant and beat the perpetrators by reporting these matters immediately. Only the week before several bags of rubbish and a chair were left on the grass verge, this is getting out of hand.”
In Culcheth, residents of Weaver Road and Avon Road in the Newchurch area of the village asked the councillors to raise the issue of weeds and overgrown trees and shrubs.
These have been identified and a request sent to Warrington Borough Council to have the matter dealt with.
In a joint statement, parish councillors Ileyne Hutchinson and Keith and Sue Bland confirmed their continued action in dealing with the issues that matter to local residents through the “Look of our Villages” campaign.
They said: “We are greatly disappointed that Warrington Borough Council has failed to deal with the ongoing issue of overgrown hedges, shurbs and weeds as a matter of course and we will continue to press the council for more action when dealing with these eyesores.
