Two arrested after police chase on Winwick Road

UPDATED: TWO men have been arrested following a high speed police chase involving up to 10 vehicles which ended on Winwick Road, Warrington last night.

Eye witness reports said up to 10 police cars were involved in the incident on Thursday evening,involving officers from Merseyside and Cheshire police.

The blue Vauxhall Vectra vehicle was being pursued from Burtonwood, where it had been spotted driving at 70 mph on the wrong side of the road, before eventually being stopped on Winwick Road.

According to one onlooker, two cars were being chased by police. Both ran over “stingers” – spikes laid in the road to puncture tyres – and one was boxed in by four police cars. The other fled along Winwick Road on flat tyres before eventually being stopped.

Police have now arrested an 18-year-old from Newton-le-Willows and a 20-year-old from Birchwood who were both taken to St Helens Police Station where they are being questioned by officers.
