A BELOW-strength Latchford suffered a heavy defeat against an impressive Golborne in their division one fixture.
For a variety of reasons Latchford were bereft of a host of their squad and travelled with only 15 players.
Despite this the early exchanges showed no signs of what was to unfold as both sides went close to opening the scoring. However it was the hosts who took the lead following a well worked try.
Unfortunately this was shortly followed by a breakaway try and with the initiative now with Parkside they began to dominate and on a hot day they had the luxury of rotating their squad.
A half time score of 28-0 left Latchford with a tough second half to follow.
Credit must go to the players who, even when injuries reduced the side to 11 players, never gave up. However they could not manage to cross the line to earn any reward for their efforts.
Coach Lee Smith said: “Every team faces adversity during the course of a season and today it was our turn. I cannot fault the effort and commitment of the boys who took to the field today but we now regroup and come back stronger.
“We are still in a very good position in the league and I am hoping to use today as a wake-up call and will be looking for my players to show the right response following this setback, On a tough day I must give credit to Connor Muir (pictured) who never gave up all game and also Chris Nicholas who played 70 minutes at prop and on such a hot day showed a great level of fitness and commitment.”
