Demolition work in full swing on multi-storey car park

DEMOLITION work got into full swing on the Academy Way town centre car park so construction work can start on a brand new multi-storey facility as part Warrington council’s £107 million Time Square regeneration scheme.

The town centre car park which serves Warrington Market officially closed last month, with demolition of the linking footbridge the first part of the demolition process.

Major demolition got under way today to make way for a new car-park which will provide circa 1,150 of secure car parking spaces over 8 levels and will be integral in supporting Warrington town centre’s overall car parking offer.

Construction of the new car park will start on site in the Autumn with completion of the brand new parking facility is anticipated for October 2017.

Planning approval was granted for the multi-storey car park earlier this year while Warrington based construction specialist I & H Brown has been awarded the £18.5 million Time Square car park construction contract by WBC.

The Time Square regeneration scheme – that has been driven and will be delivered by Warrington & Co. on behalf of Warrington Borough Council with development manager Muse Developments – will create up to 400 construction jobs and 400 new permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and restaurant sectors when the whole project is fully completed in 2019.

Academy Way is closed  to traffic during the demolition.

  1. If the old car park looked bland it’s still easier on the eye than ‘Pox Park’. What an obscenely ugly building!
At 8 levels high it will completely dwarf the historic Bridge St. If they wanted high rise ultra modern developments they could have built on Cock Edge. No wonder that CABE refused to support the Regeneration Project Plans.
As for the creation of 400 jobs in retail leisure etc. ….in their dreams….have they not noticed all the empty units in the Golden Square?
