Travellers vacate Victoria Park

2

TRAVELLERS have vacated Warrington’s Victoria Park almost a week after setting up an illegal encampment.

They ignored a council notice to quit the car park at Victoria Park within 24 hours which was served earlier in the week but have now left of their own accord.

The council was in the process of seeking court proceedings to have them moved from the car park which they occupied last weekend.

There are believed to be four different traveller groups operating in and around the Warrington area.

The ones occupying Victoria Park had at least two branded vehicles advertising roofing work.

A different group which had been occupying parkland off Wilderspool Causeway vacated the land after 10 days, after staying in town while one of their community gave birth in Warrington hospital.

Another group have been regularly setting up an illegal encampment at Silver Lane, Risley.

Travellers have also recently been on land at Chapelford, Sankey Valley Park and Winwick Road.

  1. Is it unreasonable to expect WBC to take a few early photographs soon after the next travellers’ convoy chooses to set up camp in the borough to build up a contemporaneous record of the vehicles and people involved (and the damage they leave behind) for possible use in any legal action? Rather than going through their ‘watching paint dry’ process of seeking court proceedings to have them moved.

  2. These travellers have now moved to Hardwick Grange, Woolston, near to the Iceland depot. They are blocking an entrance to the depot and have occupied a space which is reserved for a food van – despite signs saying the space is reserved.
