Viola Beach set for more chart success

WARRINGTON Indie rockers Viola Beach are set for more chart success following their tragic untimely deaths with their single “Boys That Sing,” which was showcased by Coldplay at Glastonbury, set to feature on Now That’s What I Call Music! 94.

The band’s song will appear alongside the likes of Cold Play, Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake and Pink on the compilation album which is set to hit the charts when it is released next week (July 22).

Coldplay played the band’s single “Boys that Sing” song during their Glastonbury set, as lead singer Chris Martin said the late band “reminded us of ourselves in our early days” and urged fans to help get it in the charts.Now_94_UK_Cover

The band, who were on the verge of making the big time and being mentored by Warrington music promoter Simon Moran, were on their first foreign tour in Sweden when their car crashed into a canal on February 13, killing all four band members, Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin and their manager Craig Tarry.

In the week following the crash, their then-current single “Boys That Sing” entered the UK Singles Chart at number 80 and their previous single “Swings & Waterslides” entered at number 11, following a public campaign to boost sales.

In the same week, “Swings and Waterslides” also entered at number 3 on the sales-only chart and “Boys That Sing” entered at number 27 on the same chart.

Meanwhile Viola Beach’s self-titled album will be released on July 29 via the band’s own label Fuller Beans Records.

When it was announced that an album would be released the band’s family members said, “We are tremendously proud of everything the boys achieved in such a short space of time. Craig, Jack, Kris, River and Tom shared a huge passion, talent and dedication to music.

“We believe the best way to celebrate our sons’ lives is to release an album of their songs.”
