WARRINGTON University of the Third Age (U3A) concluded its programme of activities for the year with its annual exhibition of art and photography, held at the Fairfield & Howley Community Centre on 30th June.

The U3A is part of an international self-help, co-operative movement for people who no longer work full-time, providing opportunities to join activity groups, share learning experiences and enjoy social contact.

It has 1100 members locally, since opening its doors in 2012 and a national membership of 365,000, in the 990 U3As scattered across the UK.

There are more than 40 interest groups in Warrington U3A, encompassing a huge range of activities from American Square Dance to Latin, Art to Tai-chi, Bird Watching to Line Dancing, and Computing to Classical History.

The exhibition, now in its fourth year, featured the work that was completed during the year by members of the ‘Art for All’ and the photography groups.

It was attended by more than 130 people, who all agreed that the standard of work exhibited was excellent. Entertainment was provided by Warrington U3A ukulele band, one of the activities on offer at the University of the Third age.

Registration for the 2016/17 session of U3A activities in Warrington takes place at the Winmarleigh Rooms, Winmarleigh Street on Wednesday 7th September at 2pm.

Membership costs £25 but those who are unsure are welcome to attend a taster session.
