A MAN was airlifted to hospital this morning after a road crash at Frodsham involving a fire engine on a call.
The fire engine was in collision with a car at the junction of Bridge Lane and Fluin Lane shortly before 10am when it was en route to an accident on the M56.
Three ambulances and the air ambulance went to the scene and the car driver was airlifted to Aintree Hospital. His condition is not yet known.
The fire engine, from Frodsham Fire Station, was damaged in the collision, but none of the crew were injured.  They went to the assistance of the car driver and released him from his damaged vehicle.
Other fire engines from Widnes and Runcorn went to the crash on the motorway and replacement appliances were sent to Frodsham to ensure there was no loss of cover in the area.
The motorway crash involved a coach, which has plunged down an embankment.  Firefighters have assisted passengers from the coach.
Police are at both incidents and road closures are in place in Bridge Lane and Fluin Lane.
