Europe: How did our neighbours vote?

WARRINGTON was not alone in the North West in voting to leave the European Union.
All but one of its neighbouring local authority areas also voted to leave – and the political colour of the authority appeared to have little bearing.
While a massive 104,331 voted to leave in Labour stronghold Wigan, an even bigger 113,163 voted to leave in Conservative heartland Cheshire East.
There were larger turnouts than the national average of 72 per cent in all the neighbouring areas other than St Helens, Wigan and Halton.
Cheshire East had a turn out of 77.4 per cent.
Only Conservative Trafford voted to remain.
Neighbouring council areas voted as follows:
Cheshire East –  Remain: 107,962.  Leave: 113,163.  Turn out 77.4
Cheshire West and Chester – Remain: 95,455. Leave: 98,082.  Turn out\; 74.6
Wigan – Remain: 58,942.  Leave: 104,331. Turn out 69.3
St Helens – Remain: 39,322. Leave: 54,357.  Turn out: 68.9
Halton – Remain: 27,678. Leave: 37,327. Turn out: 68.3
Trafford – Remain: 72,293. Leave: 53,018. Turn out: 75.9
As already reported, Warrington voted 52,657 to remain and 62,487 to leave on a 73.4 turn out.
