UPDATED: VIDEO: AS predicted Warrington has voted to leave the EU by 54.3 per cent to 45.7 per cent to the delight of Trevor Nicholls, Chairman of the local UKIP party who says it is a “dream come true”.
A total of 62,487 voted to leave compared to 52,657 to remain , in the “7th most Eurosceptic town in Britain.”
The turn out was 73.36 per cent.
Delighted UKIP Chairman Trevor Nicholls hailed a “great victory” and pledged to carry on flying the flag in the town – and contesting seats on the Borough Council in the future.
Lib Dem Chairman Ian Marks said he was “extremely disappointed,” describing it as a “disaster” for the country. “I don’t think those who have voted for out realise what they have let themselves in f or!”
Warrington’s result was replicated across the country especially in the North and the Midlands to lead Britain out of Europe.
Jubilant Nigel Farage said the fight for Independence day had been done without a single bullet being fired.
Prime Minister David Cameron tendered his resignation shortly after the result was announced but will stay on while anew Tory leadership contest takes place in the coming months.
