The national charity which focuses on breast cancer prevention, is recruiting Ambassadors across the country – people who believe that prevention is better than cure and who are keen to go out into their local communities to make people more aware of the risk factors for breast cancer and share simple ways to lead a healthier life.

Warrington is a key town as, in one decade (2000-2011), breast cancer incidences increased by 61.82%, one of the highest increases in England.

“The long term aim of the Ambassador programme is simply to try and reduce incidence of breast cancer. We believe prevention is better than cure and want to help prevent disease and ill health in as many people as possible. Our Ambassadors will go out into their local communities and talk about risk factors for breast cancer and what we can all do to help reduce our risk ,” explains Lynn Ladbrook, CEO of Breast Cancer UK.

“ This face-to-face personal approach can help others in their community reduce their risk of cancer and other diseases.”

The Breast Cancer UK Ambassador for Warrington will be passionate about prevention and living a more natural lifestyle. The person chosen may well have their own story to tell about breast cancer (either their own personal experience or that of a family member or close friend).

There is no need to be medically trained, as the aim is not to advise people about the symptoms or treatment of breast cancer. Breast Cancer UK will provide full training about recognised cancer risk factors, including diet, alcohol, lack of exercise etc as well as environmental risk factors from exposure to certain harmful chemicals. The Ambassador will also receive help on how to organise prevention talks and events.

Anyone wishing to apply as a Breast Cancer UK Ambassador should register their interest by 30 June on the Breast Cancer UK website http://www.breastcanceruk.org.uk/get-involved/breast-cancer-uk-ambassadors/
