WARRINGTON Wolves half back Chris Sandow was at his magical best as Warrington Wolves emphatically defeated St Helens 4-26.

Warrington took just five minutes to open the scoring as Sandow slipped a delayed pass to send Ben Currie over. Gidley was wide with the conversion.

Sandow worked his magic again on 18 minutes with a great solo try after wrong footing the St Helens defence. Gidley made no mistake with the extras to make it 0-10.

On 27 minutes a Wilkin kick almost got Saints on the scoreboard but Louie McCarthy- Scarsbrook knocked on after challenging Stefan Ratchford for the ball under the sticks.

Warrington extended their lead on 32 minutes when Currie kicked through for Ryan Atkins to win the race to the ball to touch down on his 300th career appearance. Gidley added the extras to make it 0-16 at the break.

Warrington went further ahead within three minutes of the re-start as Daryl Clark made a great break to send Ratchford over. Gidley made no mistake with the extras to make it 0-22.

More pressure from the Wolves saw Gidley kick through for Rhys Evans to touch down on 47 minutes. Gidley’s conversion attempt hit the upright making it 0-26.

An injury to Saints Jordan Turner caused a lengthy delay and the game became scrappy when it resumed.

Saints spared their blushes of being niled for the first time in a league game at home since 1980 when full-back Jonny Lomax scored a consolation try on 72 minutes. Owens couldn’t add the extras making it 4-26.

After the match Head of Coaching Tony Smith described it as a “gutsy performances” and praised the defensive effort after a difficult week with injuries.
