WARRINGTON’S new Mayor Faisal Rashid was “thrilled” to have raised nearly £12,000 for local charities following his launch event at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
More than 300 people packed into the Martin Dawes suite to help the mayor launch his year in office, which includes a special funding circle he is setting up to help the business community, while also raising funds for his four chosen charities.
Cllr Rashid was given a standing ovation by the capacity audience at the start of the fun-filled evening which included a raffle and an auction, which along with sponsorship helped him raise nearly £12,000.
During the event he said that while last year’s Mayor was the first “Digital Mayor” he would be the town’s first “Business Mayor.”
The four charities to benefit during his Mayoral year will be Warrington Disability Partnership, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary, the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, who have never previously been a Mayoral charity in their 23 year history, St Rocco’s Hospice and childrens’ charity Brainwave based at Birchwood. Although a national charity, all funds raised in Warrington will help Warrington children.
Cllr Rashid thanked everyone who attended “from the bottom of my heart for the amazing support. I am truly touched by everyone’s generosity and thrilled with the amount of money raised.”
