“Books on prescription” service for teenagers

A NEW “books on prescription” service for teenagers has been launched at Warrington to mark Mental Health Awareness week.
The service has been launched by LiveWire and the books, which are available at Padgate Library, provide 13-18 year-olds with support and
advice on common mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and stress, as well as difficult experiences like bullying and exams.
Health professionals, such as GPs or school nurses, can refer young people to the booklist.
The titles are also available for anyone to borrow from Padgate Library and any book from the collection can be reserved free of charge.
The launch of the new teenage collection is part of the ground-breaking national Reading Well programme, developed by the Reading Agency, which since its launch in 2013 has provided half a million people with expert self-help support at libraries across the country.
LiveWire has also launched an inter-generational support group at Padgate Library where young and older people get together to talk about the pressures of everyday life that can have a negative effect on mental health.
