A NUMBER of events are being held across the town to mark National Smile Month, which takes place from 16 May to 16 June.
Held by Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, the events aim to promote and raise awareness of good oral health.
Bridgewater’s Oral Health Improvement team will have a stall at the Orford Park Festival on Sunday 12 June between 11am to 3pm.
The team will also be visiting a number of Children’s Centres throughout the month, as well as the YMCA and Warrington Food Bank to offer advice, information and toothpaste samples.
Marion Stockton, Oral Health Improvement Lead for Bridgewater said: “A healthy mouth helps us to eat, speak and smile with confidence and it also helps us to have a healthy body.
“During National Smile Month, Bridgewater’s Oral Health Improvement Team will be promoting British Dental Foundation’s key messages throughout Warrington such as brush for two minutes twice a day using fluoride toothpaste, cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks and visit the dentist regularly and as often as they recommend.”
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, Warrington Borough Council executive board member for public health and wellbeing, said: “I am very pleased that Warrington is again supporting the National Smile Month campaign.
“National Smile Month is not only a great chance to promote the key oral health messages, but it is a great opportunity to highlight that a healthy smile is linked to a healthy diet and good health overall.
“Working with our partners we hope to make a positive impact and change people’s oral hygiene habits for life.”
The Oral Health Improvement Team in Warrington works in schools, Children’s Centres and nurseries to promote good dental health through local campaigns, initiatives and the distribution of free toothbrushes and toothpaste.
They also provide training on oral health for early years’ staff, health visiting teams, school health advisors as well as nursing and care staff.
