POLICE are investigating a fundraising scam involving the latest issue of warrington-worldwide magazine which is freely available around the town.
The 200th edition features members of the “Pink Army” who were fund-raising at the recent Run for Life event at Victoria Park, on the front cover.
A group of youngsters and one adult operating in the Orford area has been selling copies of the FREE publication claiming to be the Pink Army and raising money for cancer research.
When challenged in the Cowdell Street area of Orford by a member of the public they claimed they had been asked to do it by a local chip shop.
warrington-worldwide and associated titles are FREE publications and are freely available to pick up from various outlets around the town.
The incident at Orford has been reported to police and anyone who is offered a magazine for sale by someone pretending to be representing a charity should contact police on 101.
warrington-worldwide Editor Gary Skentelbery said: “In our seventeen years of publishing we have never heard of anything like this before.
“Its is amazing how low people will stoop pretending to be selling something on behalf of a cancer charity.
“I hope the adult who appears to have been encouraging these youngsters is caught so we can publicly shame them!”

If/when caught you should put their name and photo on the full front cover of the next publication for all to see !!
They would probably enjoy the publicity and think they were famous!
If caught they should be forced to make a large donation to the charity out of their own pockets !!
