A STAFF member at Warrington Central station was assaulted and threatened when he asked to see a man’s ticket.
The offender slapped him on the head and threatened to stab him before running off, British Transport Police said today.
The victim was left badly shaken by the incident.
A CCTV picture has been released today of a man police want to question about the incident which occurred on Saturday, May 14 at about 6.20pm.
Investigating officer PC Lee Owen said: “The victim approached the young man and asked to see his ticket as he had walked through the station and directly onto the platform without producing a ticket.
“He refused, claiming that he wasn’t intending to travel but was meeting someone. When the victim politely asked him to wait in the booking hall he became abusive and threatened to stab him before slapping him on the head and running off.”
PC Owen added: “This was a frightening experience for the staff member who was left shaken by what happened. The victim was simply doing his job and to be subjected to this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable. No one should be made to be fearful for their safety on the rail network.”
After reviewing CCTV, officers issued images of a man they want to speak to about the incident.
“The man in the images is someone who I think has information about this incident. Who is he?” added PC Owen.
Anyone with information about the incident, should call on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting reference 167 of 18/5. Information can also be passed to the confidential independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
