DRIVERS heading to leave Warrington via the M6 are being advised to seek other routes following a four-vehicle crash on the northbound carriageway.
The crash involved two lorries and two cars and two injured people were trapped – one in a car and one in a heavy goods vehicle.
The crash occurred between Junction 18, Holmes Chapel and Junction 19 Knutsford, but traffic is being delayed over a much longer stretch of the motorway.
At least eight fire engines are involved in the incident and police are diverting traffic away from the area.
They warn that other roads in the surrounding area are likely to be affected by heavy congestion.

An air ambulance was called to the scene and it is understood both casualties have been released and taken to hospital.  But traffic congestion remains heavy.
