URGENT action is required to tackle fly tipping in the Fairfield and Howley areas of Warrington, with a strategy to tackle the growing problem says local councillor Kevin Bennett.
He has reported several incidents of fly tipping over the Bank Holiday weekend to Warrington Borough Council, the most recent involving sofas and the washing machine on St Katherines estate.
Cllr Bennett said: “Fly tipping is blighting the area and Warrington Borough Council need to take action now! Firstly a letter needs to be sent to all residents, in various languages, to inform them that it is illegal to fly tip and legal action will be taken if the perpetrators are caught.
“Secondly, we must use CCTV evidence to secure a conviction.
“Thirdly we must review the charge we have implemented to have rubbish removed. Most of the people who are responsible for fly tipping, in Fairfield and Howley probably can’t afford to pay to have rubbish removed, therefore exasperating the problem.
“We cannot ignore the problem any longer, we need a strategy implemented immediately to rid Warrington of this problem,” he added.

The policy implemented that stops vans using the tip for none industrial purposes will lead to more of this sort of thing, I mean you can’t fit a sofa in a Corsa so the only alternatives would be to pay the council to pick it up or dump it on the streets.
I can’t understand why it is such an urgent issue 3 days before an election and hasn’t been during the last four years?
Geoff, this problem plus that of the wilful indiscriminate disposal of all sorts of other rubbish is in urgent need attention whether or not there is an election in the offing. It is blighting Warrington, and it has to be said most towns.
Geoff, as I am sure you must be aware, Anthony Higgins has been reporting and cleaning up fly tipping in the area for ages now. I know because he always posting about it on Facebook.
