WARRINGTON Borough Council has had two major successes at this year’s Building Excellence Awards in the Best Individual New Home category.
One was a home in Eagle Brow, Lymm – said to be “a superb building built and finished to a very high standard.”
The other was a house at Bolton and was the result of a partnership between Warrington and Bolton building control teams.
Each year a number of exceptional developments are submitted from the Warrington building control team to be judged against the best in the North West.
This year, Warrington had two successes.
Andy Farrall, executive director economic regeneration, growth and environment, said: “We have some wonderful building projects in and around Warrington and it is great to see them receive the recognition they deserve.”
The property at Lymm received a highly commended award. It was built by David Backhouse Construction and supervised by Paul Bernard. Architects for the project were Howard Seddon and the client Mr M Bury.
The Bolton property was voted the overall winner against 16 other nominations from the region and will now be submitted for the grand final in London on November 28.
It was completed under very challenging circumstances, which shine through on this unique project.
An eco-home built deep into a hillside outcrop, it has utilised many technical innovations in its construction, all done to a very high standard of detail and finish.
The building’s performance and sustainability was achieved with the use of triple glazing, air source heat pump, full heat recovery system, sustainable renders, underfloor heating to ground and first floor, solar panels, SIPS wall and roof panelling, all LED lighting.
The development was examined and approved by Warrington Borough Council and inspections of work carried out by Bolton Building Control. The build was undertaken by Ensign NW Ltd, Plans and calculations prepared by Steve Hunt Partnership the client was Mr H Lawrence.
Other developments in Warrington were provided with a finalist certificate signed by Warrington Mayor, Cllr Geoff Settle and Chief Executive, Professor Steven Broomhead, for the excellent developments and quality of work, and are available to view on the Warrington Building Control Web site. www.warrington.gov.uk/info/200563/building_control/2175/labc_awards_2016
