MP hits out over 71 per cent increase in child care

PEOPLE in Warrington are spending £2,617 a year more for part-time childcare than they did in 2010, according to MP Helen Jones.
This is a 71 per cent increase – but in some parts of the country the increase is more than 200 per cent, according to the Warrington North MP.
A third of parents struggle with the cost of childcare – and hidden in the recent budget it was reported that the tax-free childcare roll-out, promised in 2013, will be delayed a second time.
Ms Jones said: “I know from speaking to mums,  dads and grandparents in my constituency how hard it is to find and afford childcare.
“All we have seen from this Government is failure after failure on childcare.  Soaring costs and broken promises are badly letting down families up and down the country who continue to struggle with the cost of living.
“These figures are yet more evidence that the Tories are just not serious putting working people first.
“Their pre-election rhetoric on childcare has failed to match reality and it is children,  parents and our economy that are paying the price.”
