Radio Warrington takes to the airwaves at long last

0

AFTER more than nine years broadcasting on the internet Radio Warrington will soon be hitting the airwaves with its programmes on 1332 AM medium wave.

Run and staffed by unpaid volunteers since it began from a spare bedroom in Orford in March 2007 Radio Warrington will start broadcasting on AM on Monday May 16.

From a back bedroom in Orford the studios moved to Warrington Disability Parnership’s base in Beaufort Street, Cinnamon Brow Farm Club and they are now based in Warrington Market.

Station manager Steve Lewis said: “We did some temporary broadcasts on FM but Ofcom could not find us a permanent frequency so they granted us an AM licence in July 2014.

“Although AM broadcasting is expensive and complicated we were fortunate to get some funding from TCWP and some ideal land from United Utilities for our transmitter station.”

Steve said the Radio station had also been fortunate to meet Paul Middlehurst, a local radio expert from Lymm who was able to design and build the necessary equipment, generously giving his time and expertise for free.

Radio Warrington will bring regular, reliable traffic and travel news as well as community news and information. They are keen to support local sports and local music. They will promote charities, businesses and groups throughout the town, doing outside broadcasts from community events.

All people from the Warrington area are invited to get involved. For more information go to www.radiowarrington.co.uk or email [email protected]

Test transmissions can be heard now on 1332AM medium wave.
