English Half Marathon heading for another sell out

WARRINGTON’S English Half Marathon looks set to be the biggest yet surpassing 2,000 entries today for the 2016 race, taking place on Sunday, September 18, for what is set to be another sell out year.

More than 5,000 registered participants from 9 countries took part in the 7th annual event last year with over 65% of participants travelling from outside of Warrington for the event, which has made the finals of the Best Half Marathon category at the UK Running Awards this month.

The 2015 race weekend also incorporated the EHM10K and family mile event. After 6 years of starting and finishing at Warrington’s Victoria Park, last year’s races started and finished at the iconic Golden Gates of Warrington Town Hall with new town centre race sections introduced.

These new additions were a firm favourite with runners, and have been kept for 2016.

Rob Griffiths, Race Director said “Last year’s race was a great success on many of levels. Runners really loved the new start & finish location, along with town centre sections of the course. Contest Sports has once again shown we can deliver a world-class running event in the town. Our event is continuing to grow and we are thrilled to be back in Warrington in 2016 for another year.”

The new routes for the Half Marathon and 10k, which was well received by runners, give a generally flat course with a couple of rises and dips for added interest! The full field is sent on its way from the Town Hall in the centre of Warrington before crossing Bridgefoot and heading south.

Runners are able to enjoy the best sights – The Guardians at Market Gate, The River of Life on Bridge Street, The Cultural Quarter and Halliwell Jones Stadium, home of Warrington Wolves. Best of all is the grand finale back at the Town Hall and the chance to run through Warrington’s famous Golden Gates.

The 1 Mile Family Fun Run starts at 12:45pm, allowing participants to run two distances if desired. Both races conclude in with a finish line festival and headline concert.
